Though the concept of identity has been
explored for hundreds of years, the perception that an individual has a
unique identity has only been developed more recently. Identity is described as the conception, qualities, beliefs, and expressions
that make a person or group.
As soon as Jesus was
baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he
saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son,
whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” Matthew
2:16 & 17
Here in this passage, it was important for God to affirm Jesus;
this was a confirmation of his significant identity. Of course this also led to
the classic temptations by the devil in the wilderness. Adam was tempted at the
same point in the garden. Adam failed and the devil assumed his identity and
became the ‘ruler of this world’.
Identity theft, according
to Wikipediais the deliberate use of someone else's identity, usually as a
method to gain a financial advantage or obtain credit and other benefits in the
other person's name, and perhaps to the other person's disadvantage or loss.
Identity theft is bad and can cost you a great
deal. While ID theft is external to you, Identity crisis on the other hand is
internal. It’s the developmental
conflicts you face through identification, prevailing cultures, social mirrors
and opinion of others. This is believed to lead to a time of intensive analysis and exploration of different ways of
looking at oneself.
Until you win this conflict of identity, you don’t possess
yourself; what you don’t possess, you can’t give. According to Frank Sinatra when he is reported
to have given away his $2,000 cufflinks to the wife of an ill fan after signing
an autograph, “If you possess something
but you can't give it away, then you don't possess it”. Jesus gave himself for
the world, what are you giving; it’s an indication to what you truly possess.
You are a child of God, the world is waiting for your
manifestation, you shall not fail to deliver in Jesus’ name.
