Lead me to the ROCK

Then the Rabshakeh stood and called out with a loud voice in Hebrew, and spoke, saying, “Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria! Thus says the king: ‘Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he shall not be able to deliver you from his hand; nor let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, “The LORD will surely deliver us; this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”’…And so it was, when King Hezekiah heard it, that he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD. 2Kings 18

Sennacherib, a great and powerful king is bent on attacking and destroying Jerusalem and no amount of gift or levy will appease him. This is similar to the position adopted by Ancient Rome regarding Carthage around the 2nd Century BC that lead to the destruction of the old Carthaginian Empire.

At least once in everyone’s life time, you get this type of intimidation, a confrontation from an enemy too great for you to handle. This might be in different areas for different folks; health, finances, relationship, works and so on.

When this happens, the usual temptation is to surrender or run. Before you throw in the towel however, take a cue from Hezekiah; he ran to God. It is important to have a rock you can run to for refuge. It is not the time to reach for liquor, drugs or inordinate affections, they don’t help much. The Psalmist puts it this way in Chapter 61 “From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I”.

You might not have been in good relationship with God, not to worry, Jesus said “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out” John 6:37. Let your worries and all confrontations drive you to God first, He’s ever ready to help.

May the mighty hands of God keep and guide you in every trouble in Jesus’ name.
