Motivate, don’t manipulate

David was then in the hold, and the Philistines' garrison was then at Bethlehem. And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate! And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to the LORD. 1 Chronicles 11:16-18

David was homesick. Not for communion with family or his mum’s cooking, he wanted a drink from the well at the city gate. Only there’s a problem, it’s about six miles away and there is an enemy camp in the way. It will probably be necessary to confront the enemy more than once; first to get to the water and then come through again with the water to get back to David in the hold.

You can surprise the enemy on the first encounter but how do you do it the second time, looks like a daredevil mission. But just for a drink of water….?

While I commend the courage of these 3 warriors, I’m more drawn to David who at this time wasn’t even a king yet. How did he impact these folks so much to want to go on such a self-sacrificing mission for the chance to give him a drink from a particular well? I will understand a sense of duty if David’s life was in danger.

It was Zig Ziglar who said “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” You must be a motivator for somebody, do your best to connect somebody to something bigger than themselves. Motivate but don’t manipulate. David never meant for his longing to become an instruction, hence he couldn’t drink the water.

David was a great mentor and master motivator, as he grew in status and means, the people around him also grew with him in various dimensions. Not only did they grow in means, but they also grew in character, skill, vision, understanding etc. they became the legendary mighty men of David.

Ziglar also said “If you go looking for a friend, you're going to find they're scarce. If you go out to be a friend, you'll find them everywhere.” I see you receive the grace to help and connect people to destiny; one person at a time. You shall be a positive impact in Jesus’ name.

自己寻找动机,因为这是你无法从别人那里得到的东西。找到你的灵感个性并阅读书籍。

I have no words to praise it but this is so true learning for the life. We all must follow these sayings. Lord has made us the human being, the most prestigious creatures. We should be thankful to him for this.
